A long warranty headline is not enough. An adjustable bed package contains different products and components, and each may have different cover, exclusions and service arrangements.
Separate the warranties
Ask for written terms for the structural base, articulation motors, hi-lo lift system, control box, handset, accessories and mattress. A “ten-year warranty” may not apply for ten years to every part.
Parts, labour and travel
Confirm whether labour is covered for the same period as parts, whether a technician attends the home and whether travel charges apply to your postcode. A free replacement component can still leave diagnosis and installation costs.
Who is your service contact?
Record the business name, phone number and claim process. Ask whether the retailer manages the claim or redirects you to a distributor. Local accountability matters for a large powered product.
Common exclusions to read
- Loads above the stated limit.
- Damage from moving or incorrect assembly.
- Liquids, pets or items stored under the mechanism.
- Incompatible mattresses or accessories.
- Commercial or non-domestic use.
- Unauthorised repairs or electrical changes.
What evidence should you keep?
Save the invoice, full model names, serial-number photos, delivery date and warranty documents. Photograph the installation and keep a short video of normal operation. If a fault appears, record when it began and which functions are affected.
Spare-parts questions
Ask whether replacement remotes, control boxes and motors are stocked in Australia and how long the model is expected to be supported. No supplier can promise indefinite parts, but a clear current process is a useful signal.
Mattress comfort is different from a defect
A comfort exchange or trial policy is not the same as a manufacturing warranty. Read time limits, protector requirements, transport charges and eligible replacement terms separately.
Delivery damage
Inspect the bed before sign-off and note visible damage immediately. Confirm operation of every side and accessory. Do not discard packaging prematurely if the supplier asks it to be retained for a claim.
Australian Consumer Law
Written warranties sit alongside rights that may apply under Australian Consumer Law. Keep the transaction evidence and seek independent consumer guidance when a dispute cannot be resolved.
Five-line comparison
For each quote, write: years by component; labour; travel; claim contact; parts location. The differences become much easier to see.
