Adjustable beds generally need simple care, but the care must respect moving and electrical parts. The owner’s manual for the exact model always takes priority over a generic checklist.

Monthly visual check

Return the bed to flat, disconnect power if the instructions require it, and inspect visible cables, plugs and control boxes. Look for pinching, abrasion, liquid damage or objects touching the mechanism. Do not open electrical housings.

Keep the movement zone clear

The space under a base is not ordinary storage. Boxes, shoes, pets and loose fabric can obstruct movement. Check the full path of head, leg and hi-lo sections.

Cleaning the frame

Use only methods approved for the upholstery or finish. Apply cleaner to a cloth rather than spraying toward motors or electronics. Keep liquids away from plugs, ports, handsets and control boxes.

Mattress care

Follow the mattress rotation and cleaning instructions. Some mattresses are single-sided and should not be flipped. Check that the retainer remains secure and the mattress returns flat without unusual shifting.

Remote-control care

Keep the handset dry and in a consistent location. Replace batteries with the specified type and remove leaking cells safely. Store pairing and reset instructions with the manual.

When a new noise appears

  1. Check whether the base touches a wall or bedside table.
  2. Remove objects from beneath it.
  3. Confirm legs stand evenly on the floor.
  4. Test each movement separately.
  5. Record the sound and contact the service provider if it persists.

Do not repeatedly operate a struggling or jammed motor.

Power and backup systems

Know the normal isolation point and emergency lowering method. Replace backup batteries on the schedule given by the manufacturer. A backup is often intended for lowering, not continued normal operation.

Moving the bed

Powered bases are heavy. Use the approved disassembly and lifting points, protect cables and never lift by articulated deck panels. Ask whether unauthorised moving can affect warranty.

Service log

Record installation, maintenance, battery changes and service calls. Photograph serial numbers before they become hard to access. A clear history speeds diagnosis.

Stop and seek service when

  • A cable or plug is damaged.
  • There is a burning smell, heat or liquid exposure.
  • Movement is uneven or unexpectedly stops.
  • The frame appears bent or unstable.
  • The control behaves unpredictably.
